20th International Conference of Young Scholars Prague

On Thursday and Friday, 26th and 27th May 2016, the University of Economics, Prague will host the 20th International Conference of Young Scholars (http://icys.vse.cz/). The theme of this year’s conference is titled: “The Shifting Balances of International Relations?”

For the past twenty years, the conference has been a gathering of young scholars, namely PhD students, from the fields of International Relations, Political Science, and other related disciplines. Here, they discuss the contemporary issues in world politics, security, economics, law, diplomacy, etc. Virtually hundreds of students and academics from numerous countries around the world have participated in the discussions.

The conference is a non-profit event organized by PhD students and supported by academics from the Jan Masaryk Centre of International Studies at the Faculty of International Relations (http://smsjm.vse.cz/english/). The Centre, which was established in 1991, is the oldest academic institution in the Czech Republic which teaches, and conducts research on, international politics and diplomacy.

This year, the conference will host 32 young scholars from, for instance, Afghanistan, Croatia, Ecuador, Georgia, Hungary, Korea, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Thailand, and the Czech Republic. A new feature is the Accompanying Program, which will offer excursions and film screenings during the first day of the conference, and expert workshops during the second. The key note speech will be given by Prof. Petr Drulák, the Political Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
